Around fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located multiple other smeared cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials say early analysis show the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; investigators are currently not aware of any harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for details.
An important political figure stated the vandalism left him without words and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he posted on a platform, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
